MMI Navigation Plus Features
Upgrading to the optional MMI Navigation Plus package (often combined with the Audi virtual cockpit) unlocks a range of advanced features:
- Audi Virtual Cockpit Integration: Navigation information, including a large map display, can be shown directly on the fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, right in the driver’s line of sight.
- Advanced 3D Maps: The system offers detailed 3D map displays with many points of interest and city models, as well as high-resolution satellite imagery from Google Earth.
- Connected Services: The navigation benefits from Audi connect Navigation & Infotainment services, which include:
- Real-time Traffic Updates: The system considers real-time traffic data and makes intelligent route suggestions based on traffic density and time of day.
- Online POI Search: You can use voice control to find nearby places, with details like opening hours, reviews, and photos displayed on the screen.
- Parking & Fuel Info: Live updates on nearby parking availability/pricing and real-time fuel prices at local stations are available.
- Car-to-X Services: In equipped areas, the system can communicate with traffic lights to help drivers “surf the green wave” or find free street parking spots.
- Personal Route Assistance: When activated, the system monitors regularly driven routes and provides predictions about traffic development.
- Map Updates: Free downloadable map updates are typically available for a period of several years after the vehicle’s production date via the myAudi app.
Alternatives: Smartphone Navigation
While the built-in Audi navigation offers excellent integration with the virtual cockpit and head-up display (if equipped), many users opt for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto’s navigation (e.g., Google Maps or Waze) for potentially superior real-time traffic information and speed trap updates. These third-party maps display on the central MMI screen, though generally not in the virtual cockpit or HUD.
